Bowerbird Bags

Bowerbird Bags started in 2017 when Lilly experienced first-hand the amount of waste fabrics going into landfill from the upholstery industry.

After previous careers as a Production Manager/Designer in a bag design company, Lilly started using the waste fabrics to create handbags which were perfect for everyday use as they are made from quality fabrics and would outlast many High St brand bags. No cardboard or glues are used in Bowerbird bag production. The small off-cut waste pieces are perfect for a new life as a mixed fabric, practical bag range with a passion for sustainability and simple design, often using other materials like felted woollen jumpers, and coloured belts.

Each Bowerbird Bag is completely unique and made in a small home studio in Newcastle using local fabrics. The shibori range is completely hand dyed by Lilly, using plain, light base re-purposed leather.

Bowerbird Bags also stands by the 'repairs for life' promise
. As long as we have a studio and a machine and the bag has life to live, we will repair it for free.

Lilly grew up in Denman, in the lower Hunter Valley and moved to Newcastle to study a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) at the University. Lilly has spent time living and working in England, including some time working with a Saville Row tailor learning pattern-making and production.  Lilly is passionate about sustainability in fashion design and loves using fabrics like hemp and re-purposed fabrics and fittings.
